5. Introduction
---------------

visionapp Remote Desktop (vRD) is a tool which allows the management
of RDP connections to servers. vRD is ideal for administrators who need
to maintain simultaneous connections to multiple servers. Connection-specific
settings and login credentials can be organized in folders and subfolders
for quick access.

6. Features
-----------

Create and manage folders and subfolders for connection objects
Define connection settings such as redirections, RDP port
and window size in connection objects
Organize connection objects in different folders and subfolders
Change the order of folders, subfolders and connection objects
Define connection settings such as redirections and window size
Create user-specific credential items including username, password
	and domain (encrypted)
Login to remote server desktops with a single mouse click on a
	connection object
Use the overview window to find open user sessions
Take advantage of the option to open a separate window for a new
	user session
Connect to interactive remote console on supported platforms, such
	as Windows Server 2003
Description area above vRD work area may be opened or closed
Different sort options for the connection object hierarchy are available
Assign a user-defined credential object to folders and subfolders
Inherit credentials from parent folder or assign a user-defined
credential object to a connection object
Export and import folders including all connection object settings via
	XML files
Export and import credential objects using a password-protected and
encrypted file (256-bit AES encrypted) -- for security reasons, the
encrypted file can only be imported if the user ID is the same as it was
	when the credentials were exported
User Interface language can be switched either to English or to German
	during program run-time

7. Using visionapp Remote Desktop
---------------------------------

Start visionapp Remote Desktop from its home directory or from
"Start | All Programs | visionapp Remote Desktop".

Create a new connection object by selecting "New Connection" in the
context menu of the Connection item in the treeview. Assign all required
values to the new connection object, including a name and the server
name (or its IP address). The name of the new connection object will
be displayed in the treeview after the OK button of the New Connection
Properties window was clicked.

A double-click on a connection object in the treeview will open the
remote desktop of the assigned Terminal Server in a tab page. Multiple
open connections will be displayed in associated tab pages. Change from
one open Terminal Server desktop to an other by selecting the label of
the appropriate tab page including the connection name.

In the treeview you may also create groups and sub-groups including
connection objects. You can move and re-order groups, sub-groups
and connection objects in the treeview by using drag & drop. The
hierarchy of groups, sub-groups and connection objects including all
their settings can be exported into an XML file. This XML file can
be imported later in time or on an other instance of visionapp Remote
Desktop.

visionapp Remote Desktop provides a powerful feature to manage
user credentials. You can create credential objects by selecting "New
Credentials" in the context menu of the Credentials item in the treeview.
A credential object includes user login name, password and domain.
You can assign a credential object to a connection object or to
a group, allowing you a convenient automated login to Terminal Servers.

By default, a connection object inherits the credentials from its
parent folder.

NOTE: All user credentials stored with visionapp Remote Desktop are
encrypted.

Complete usage instructions are available in the on-line help file.

8. Removing visionapp Remote Desktop
------------------------------------

You may remove visionapp Remote Desktop from your computer by
opening "Add or Remove Programs" in the Control Panel.

Selecting visionapp Remote Desktop in the Change or Remove Programs
window and clicking the Remove button opens a wizard which guides
you through the steps to remove the software successfully.

9. Known issues
---------------

PROBLEM: With visionapp Remote Desktop (vRD) 1.5, you can export credentials
on one computer and import them to an instance of vRD 1.5 on a different computer.
However, In vRD 1.4, it is not possible to export credentials on one computer and
then import them into vRD 1.4 or 1.5 on a new computer. It is possible to do an
in-place upgrade and import the vRD 1.4 credentials to vRD 1.5 on the same computer.

WORKAROUND: To move vRD credentials to an instance of vRD 1.5 on a new computer,
perform an in-place upgrade first and import the credentials into vRD 1.5.
Then export the credentials using vRD 1.5. You can now import them to vRD on a new
computer.
